How We Do It

To carry out Angus breed verification, an independent third-party quality assurance system that underpins raising claims made by processors, every critical control point is monitored to assure product identity, traceability and integrity. Monitoring is conducted by trained auditors at each to complete full program audits and training where required.

In order to verify Angus breed raising claims the following is conducted for each participating processor at each identified critical control point;

  • A full program benchmark verification is carried out against the standard owned by Certified Angus Group Pty Ltd.
  • Implementation of the independent third-party standard within the on-plant standard operating procedures ensures the processor is adhering to the independent third-party program requirements.
  • All staff associated with the program undertake training to ensure all key critical control are understood and managed.
  • All National Vendor Declarations are checked to ensure animals are correctly identified as Angus.
  • A phenotypic assessment is carry out to ensure all animals display phenotypic characteristics typical of Angus cattle.
  • All programs are underpinned by Zoetis DNA sampling for Angus breed content.
  • Monitoring is undertaken to ensure all cattle processed maintain identification through processing, and subsequent beef product is identified and packed separately.
  • All brands utilising independent third-party Angus breed verification identify verified product using the trademarks registered by Certified Angus Group Pty Ltd.
  • All processing sites are subject to full program 6 monthly audits.
  • In addition to identifying carton beef as verified, a verification statement is issued at time of verification. Brands utilising independent third-party verification may supply this statement with their product as assurance of Angus breed content.
  • Certified Angus Group Pty Ltd Angus breed verification program is ISO 9001:2008 accredited, further validating the legitimacy of the system applied to Angus breed verification.
  • Aus-Meat Limited recognises this Angus breed verification standard and program.
